HISTORY
Back in 1870 a family from La Seca, Known as the Donatos, believed in their land’s still uncertain potential to produce white wines, wines made from the almost unknown local variety called Verdejo.
The wine was sold by the arroba for 12 or 13 reales and transported in carts pulled by oxen and mules.
On 12 January 1980 the Denominación de Origen Rueda was established in recognition of the quality and special properties of these white wines made from a variety that was unique in the world. Vinos Sanz, the oldest winery in the region, joined in this endeavour by building new facilities in Rueda, and equipping them with the most modern winemaking technology available to ensure higher quality wine.
